“‘Homegrown’ is a song about encounters at an agricultural fair, being welcomed by its country town characters. Local heritage is preserved in prize-winning rose blooms, town halls with floorboards and jam stalls, and wood-carving skills passed down the generations. Originally inspired by visiting agricultural fairs in the sun and dust of the Australian countryside, this song conveys an endearing respect for those who grow the food that spreads our tables.” - Hannah
“Hannah always writes beautiful lyrics and when I saw what she had written on the theme of ‘Heritage’ I was really inspired to add music to it. It all came together easily, and as soon as Gordon added his guitar lines the song felt complete. It was lovely to have Hannah sing harmonies on the track too. Both Hannah and I connected with the lyric ‘I’m not ready for the country’ - being able to appreciate that life but not being prepared to give up the buzz of the city just yet. The lyric is of course a nod to Neil Young and when it came to production his iconic ‘Harvest’ album was a firm reference point” - Claire
